Saint Patrick’s Day (or Paddy’s Day) is the annual feast day celebrating Saint Patrick, the most recognized patron saint of Ireland. What used to be a religious holiday has now become a general public holiday filled with some interesting new customs. Shamrocks were once worn in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day to symbolize the holy trinity and wearing green in general now-a-days sprang from this practice.
Today, Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated the world over by Irish and non-Irish alike by wearing green and doing all sorts of celebratory things – like throwing street fairs, parades, dying odd things green, eating dyed-green foods and drinks and of course spending time at your local pub.
If you plan on downing a few green beers with friends, please remember to be safe and never drive intoxicated.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day everyone.
